About this list

Every route here has been chosen against a specific set of priorities, in this order: beautiful landscape, quiet roads or segregated cycle paths, train accessibility from Vienna with bikes, nice towns and accommodation along the way, a reward at the end, surface that is paved or only mildly gravelled, and a stable enough weather window for the suggested season. Routes that don't clear that bar are not included.

Train notes specifically describe how to reach the start from Wien Hbf or Wien Meidling with your own bike. Direct ÖBB Railjet, Cityjet, REX and Nightjet services accept bikes with a mandatory bike reservation. Deutsche Bahn ICE generally does not. Where the journey involves several legs, the notes call out the relevant operators.

No itineraries are invented here. Each route links to its official tourism page or a route-specific operator; the surface mix, distance and recommended day-split are taken from those sources. If you spot something off, the source link is the place to confirm.
